Retreating From Reality with Scott Fischer (Part 1)

When the people who are designated to create safety and security in your home as a child can’t show up well, it’s easy to normalize chaotic and unsafe circumstances. In this episode, I’ve invited my friend Scott to share how his childhood was full of the damaging effects of his chaotic family life, including feelings of fear, confusion, and a distorted understanding of relationships. He specifically shares seeking solace in retreat and escapism, particularly through playing sports and porn.

Join us next week as Scott shares how God led him on a unique healing journey to find peace with God and the courage to trust God to restore what had been in pieces.

What You’ll Learn

  • How Scott’s dad’s alcoholism turned his childhood upside down

  • What it was like for Scott to move so often and constantly start over

  • Why it is so difficult to make good decisions when fear is always present

  • Why Scott was angry that his mom didn’t draw better boundaries with his dad

  • How easily Scott got caught in a trap of shame in his sexuality
