Dick’s Story: Serenity: The Fruit of Practicing the 12 Steps (Part 2)

Chances are you know someone who has attended or benefited from a 12 Step program. It’s been around for a long time and the principles are powerful for those who are seeking healing and freedom. In this episode, Dick shares with us how God has used this program to not only guide him through the healing process but also turn around to serve those who are at the beginning of their journey by sponsoring individuals and facilitating groups.

While every story of recovery is unique in its twists and turns, it’s not uncommon to recognize your own familiar themes, attitudes, and feelings in someone else’s story. This is why I want to share these stories on the podcast. Listen to learn why a safe and courageous community continues to be a key to staying sober and choosing freedom every day for Dick.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why Dick was desperate for any validation that he was loved.

  • How fear of rejection and a compulsive desire to control are connected

  • How Dick can reconcile that he identifies that he is both a child of God and an alcoholic according to the program

  • The ways Dick depends on his community to reflect hope to him on dark days

  • What the “maintenance” steps are in a 12 Step program and why they are powerful
