Need for Emotional Connection: Roots of Sexual Addiction: Ryan’s Story, Part One

It’s easy to classify certain emotions as positive or negative, and yet God designed us with a capacity to feel them all. If no one is available to teach us what to do with our most vulnerable emotions like anger and fear, we quickly learn that expressing these is not welcome. And so we also learn to hide and numb. This was the experience of Ryan, my guest on the podcast this week.

I invite you to listen to his incredibly honest and relatable story of how some long neglected emotional needs led to trying to get those needs met in a very counterfeit way. It’s not graphic, it’s just honest and incredibly powerful. Be sure to subscribe so you can hear the rest of his story as we explore his story of healing and recovery in part two next week.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why Ryan started to believe his feelings were not valuable or welcome in his home

  • Why so much unaddressed anger became impossible to ignore

  • How the message of being disqualified invaded all of Ryan’s thoughts

  • Why it became so hard to keep hiding

  • How God pursued Ryan’s heart by showing him this addiction would never be “manageable”
